One of the stellar works in our collection of royal and noble ancestry books is the 1996 publication, Plantagenet Ancestry of Seventeenth-Century Colonists, by David Faris. As the subtitle explains, this work traces the descent from England’s kings Henry III, Edward I, Edward II, and Edward III to British emigrants who arrived in the North American colonies before 1701, and who are believed to have progeny living in the U.S. today. In all, Dr. Faris summarizes about one hundred lines of descent back to the Plantagenet (Angevin) kings. Included among them are families possessing the surnames Brewster, Bulkeley, Carr, Cooke, Culpeper, Deighton, Digges, Dudley, Gorsuch, Jennings, Kemp, Ludlow, Nelson, Pynchon, Randolph, Rodney, Skipper, Savage, Throckmorton, Wyatt, and others. 4. BRIDGET DRURY, was born on 11 Sep. 1534. She was married to HENRY YELVERTON, Esq., of Rougham, Norfolk, son of William Yelverton, Of Rougham, by his wife Margaret Garnon. He was born about 1527 (aged fifty-nine 28 Eliz.). They had four sons and two daughters. “Henry Yelverton, esquier, Roughame, Norfolk” died testate (P.C.C., 48 Woodhall) on 26 Apr. 1601.

3. WILLIAM YELVERTON, Knt„ of Bayfield, Norfolk, son and heir, was born about 1558 (aged forty-three 12 Eliz.). He was married, with marriage settlement dated 12 Mar. 1587, to DIONYSIA STUBBS, eldest daughter of Richard Stubbs of Sedgeford, Norfolk. They had two sons and three daughters. He was created a Baronet in 1620.WILLIAM YELVERTON, BART., died on 30 Oct. 1631.

2. WILLIAM YELVERTON, Knt„ Second Baronet, was born about 1606 (aged thirty in 12 Car. I). He was married, with marriage settlement dated 12 June 1614, to URSUIA RICHARDSON, eldest daughter of Thomas Richardson, Knt., K.B., Lord Chief Justice. They had one son and two daughters. SIR WILLIAM YELVERTON, Bart., died on 19 July 1648. His widow died on 20 Mar. 1657.

1. ELIZABETH YELVERTON, was married to THOMAS PEYTON, Esq., of Rougham, Norfolk, younger son, of Edward Peyton, Knt., Bart. (descendant of King Edward I), by Jane, daughter of James Calthorpe, Knt., of Calthorpe, Norfolk [see HASILDEN 2 for his ancestry]. He was baptised on 29 Mar. 1617. They had four sons. She died testate (P.C.C., 26 Penn) on 15 June 1668, and was buried at Rougham. THOMAS PEYTON, ESQ., died on 12 Oct. 1683.
