Virginia’s Northern Neck is comprised of the present-day counties of Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland. (The oldest records for Richmond County date from its origin as part of Old Rappahannock County.)  We have already devoted several issues of “Genealogy Pointers” to descriptions of Dr. Robert K. Headley, Jr.’s magnum opus, Northern Neck of Virginia Pioneers, 1642-1675. In Six Volumes. In a word, Dr. Headley has presented us with a genealogical dictionary of the earliest settlers of the Northern Neck derived from a staggering database of 74,893 records.

Northern Neck of Virginia Pioneers, 1642-1675 is available for purchase not only as a complete six-volume set but also by individual volume. While there are hundreds upon hundreds of genealogical sketches in the entire work, the records themselves emphasize a handful of families in each book.
