Description
This volume contains an alphabetical listing of all Maryland Land Grants issued between 1701 and 1730, and is a continuation of the author’s previous volume covering the years 1679-1700, which was itself a continuation of Gust Skordas’ famous Early Settlers of Maryland. Based on land records at the Hall of Records in Annapolis, it identifies all grants of land made by purchase, a process involving the issuing of warrants, certificates of survey, and patents. From these several documentary sources Mr. Coldham has been able to assemble a record of virtually all land grants made between 1701 and 1730. (It should be noted that land grants made after 1706 reflect the creation in that year of Queen Anne’s County.) Similar in coverage and arrangement to Coldham’s earlier volume, this book names about 3,500 landowners along with their numerous and vast tracts of land.
