Lincoln County, North Carolina, was formed in 1779 from the eastern portion of the now defunct county of Tryon. The western part of Tryon County was incorporated into Rutherford County. The work at hand is a collection of marriage bonds for the period from 1769 to 1867, abstracted from the more than 6,000 extant bonds on file at the courthouse in Lincolnton, North Carolina. The bonds are arranged alphabetically according to the name of the groom, while the names of the brides are alphabetically arranged and keyed to their respective grooms in the index at the back of the volume. For each marriage abstract we are given the names of the bride and groom, the name of the surety or sureties, the date of the bond, the name of one or more witnesses to the wedding, and, on occasion, additional information about one of the principals to the marriage.
