Description
Based on the second federal census, this model index is composed of 61,000 main entries and reaches some 270 pages in length. It consists chiefly of an alphabetical list of heads of households in North Carolina in the year 1800 and is set forth in the following manner: first the family name of the head of household is given, followed by the Christian name, then the county of residence, and finally the page number of the census schedule. All data of significance in the original census enumerations are thus rendered in a manner calculated to ease the burden of research. Taking into account the sixty counties of North Carolina at the time of the 1800 census, this work is seen at once as a research tool of extraordinary magnitude.
“This excellent book is a ‘MUST’ for anyone working in North Carolina during this period of time.”–Georgia Genealogical Magazine (Winter-Spring 1977).
