W. A. Covington’s History of Colquitt County traces the county’s development from the Civil War era to the Great Depression of the 1930s. Genealogists will want to concentrate on two facets of the volume: (1) a transcription of the U.S. census for Colquitt County in 1860, giving the name, age, occupation, and birthplace of all persons found in what constitutes the county’s first census; and (2) a collection of genealogical/biographical sketches of almost forty families, many of whose beginnings in Colquitt County are as old as the county itself.
